New Moving Image is a quarterly series of screening programmes running between October 2019 and October 2020. Featuring new, in-progress, or seldom screened work by emerging artists, each hour-long programme will be followed by a panel discussion with participating filmmakers.
Simnikiwe Buhlungu is a multidisciplinary artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Buhlungu obtained her BA (Fine Art) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (2017).
Recent projects include the Actually, The Dead Are Not Dead, Bergen Assembly, Bergen, Norway (2019) and the Collective Intimacies mural project, The Showroom, London, UK (2019). Recent international residencies include the WIELS residency programme in Brussels, Belgium (2018), the Future Assembly residency between London and Cambridge (UK), and Lagos [upcoming 2020] and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, Netherlands [upcoming 2020].
Seecum Cheung works primarily with moving image. Cheung’s current work is an ongoing series of films based upon interviews and encounters initiated by the artist with leading specialists in the field of right-wing radicalism, human rights and activist groups, politicians, and affected citizens. Through representing multi-perspective positions, the work brings to light values and opinions which are at times unsavory, idealistic or controversial: deliberately asking the viewer how we might all find a compromise through difference. Questions proposed to interviewees intersect upon contemporary political issues such as electoral models (proportional representation), security and immigration, nationalism, human rights, and cultural integration. Amidst an increasingly intolerant, hostile, and unpredictable political landscape, the work seeks to locate perspectives within the political sphere which may be unheard, alternative, overlooked or misunderstood.

She is the recipient of the first Anni and Heinrich Sussmann Open Call Award (2015/16) and was awarded the O&O CBK Rotterdam research grant (2017).
Mathew Parkin is an artist, writer and home cook from Wakefield currently based in Scotland. They mainly work in moving image, platforming, and text, working in and against institutions. They are particularly interested in autobiography and how to support various bodies to inhabit space. Often they work with friends, lovers, peers and family both in the production and as the subject of moving image work. Recurring themes are the body, accessibility, class, intimacy, geography, provisional, queerness, sex and kinship. They are trying to resist dominant forms of media and sit against professionalised forms of moving image production.
In 2019 they will be in residence at Hospitalfield and CCA Glasgow. Recently they have produced exhibitions or screenings at or with LUX Scotland, V22, Grand Union, Embassy Gallery, IMT Gallery, the ICA,Two Queens, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, Eastside Projects, and Supercollider. They gained an MFA from Glasgow School of Art (2018) and were a participant of The Syllabus programme 2015/16.
Will Pham is an artist working in video, live performance and socially engaged practice. His work engages with issues relating to immigrant intergenerational relationships and questions around cultural inheritance, community building and refugee narratives within the UK.

He was awarded the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Art Manchester ‘Breathe’ residency to Taipei Artist Village (2018), Gasworks International Fellowship (2015) and the CCW Artists Moving Image Award at The South London Gallery (2011). He was an associate member of Asia Art Activism, Raven Row (2018) and was a committee member of the An Viet Foundation, Hackney (2018). He has a forthcoming solo exhibition at CFCCA Manchester in 2020. He lives and works in London.
Rhea Storr is an artist filmmaker who considers Black and Mixed-race identities, asking where images fail or resist us. Working between 16mm and digital recent interests include the politics of masquerade and Black bodies in rural spaces. Screenings include National Museum of African American History and Culture, US, European Media Art Festival, Germany, Berwick Film and Media Art Festival, UK and ‘Get Up Stand Up Now’, Somerset House. She is the winner of the inaugural Louis Le Prince Experimental Film Prize and runs the film lab at ‘Not Nowhere’ an artist workers’ cooperative, London.
